The temperature measurement laboratory is responsible for the realization and dissemination of SI unit (Kalvin) for temperature. Temperature measurement laboratory is tasked with developing, improving and maintaining national measurement standards in the field of temperature. The temperature laboratory will participate in international comparisons to keep the traceability of quantity values and will provide verification, calibration and testing services to customers as well as technical consultation to both government and private sectors.


Equipments of temperature laboratory:

We have different types of standard temperature measuring equipment like liquid-in-glass thermometer, Platinum Resistance Thermometer, infrared thermometer etc. The temperature laboratory is fully equipped and capable to calibrate -200 DC to 1200 DC. The equipment cost of the laboratory is 1.65 crore taka (1,65,645.54 euro).

Water Triple Point Cell (Primary Standard): Triple point: 0.01 DC, Reproducibility: 0.02mk.

Liquid-in-glass thermometer: We have number of liquid-in-glass thermometers. We can calibrate -30C to +610°c with liquid-in-glass thermometer. They are Ice point mercury in glass thermometer, (range: -10C to +10C Division 0.01 DC), Ref. Standard mercury in glass thermometer (range -3 to 6100C, division 0.20C to 0.50C), SET Faden Thermometer, (Solid stem 0 to 1000C, 0 to 2000C, 0 to 3000C, 0 to 4000C, 0 to 5000C), Standard mercury in glass thermometer (+300C to 450C).

Platinum Resistance Thermometer

We have two Standards Platinum Resistance Thermometer (SPRT) traceable to PTB Germany. We can calibrate -2000C to +6700C with this SPRT. We also have two Working Standard Platinum Resistance Thermolmeter.

Infrared calibrator & Thermometers:

In our temperature laboratory we have portable infra-red Calibrator (Fluke Model 9132) Range: 50-500 DC, Resolution: 0.10C, Accuracy: ±0.50C at 100° C & 0. °c at 5000C, SIN: A82697 including 3 pieces of infrared thermometer, (Range: -300C to 5000C). With this infrared thermometer we can measure the temperature of any distant goods or objects without touching.

Thermocouples :

We have two thermocouples such as standard PT-pt-10%Rh thermocouples and Gold-Platinum thermocouples.

Besides this, we have:

Clear View Thermostat, Type: Proline PV24 Range: 30°C to 230 °C ;
Flake Ice -Maker, Mod.: FIM95, Bin cap.: 30kg;

Water stills for double Distillation Bench Model, Flow rate : 8 Li/hr. Storage tank Cap : 16 Liter;

Dewar Vessel with Handle-5 nos. (Cap:500ml, 1000 ml, 2000 ml, 4000 ml, 5000ml); Thermo Bridge to measure the temperature Tinsley 584DE2, Type AC bridge, Range: 0-400 , Unceliainty: Less than 10 ppm for resistance and temperature, 2 Standard Resistances- 10 ohm, Type: 5685 A, No.: 9742/25 & 100 ohm, Type: 5685A, No. 9741/29;

Stired Liquid Bath, Model : 915 with accessories;

Fluid calibration Bath, Model : 875 with accessories;

Portable Dry Block Calibrator ISOTECH, Model : Jupiter 650 site, 935-14-72DB, S/N 271149/1 and

Digital Thermometer.

Calibration status:
All Equipments are traceable to DKD/PTB-Germany, UKAS/NPL-UK.

BSTI-NMI has maintained close ties with many international organizations and has always been an active part in activities of world metrological community. BSTI-NMI is a member of Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP), APMP developing Economy Committee (DEC), corresponding member of OIML, BSTI also member of International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electro-technical Committee (IEC), CODEX, SARSO.

In May 25-29, 2008 the APMP EC/TCC and DEC Meetings & CIPM-MRA, MiC workshop were held in Dhaka, and BSTI served as the organizer for the whole event.

The BSTl-NMI also maintains sound cooperative relations with NMIs worldwide. Bilateral cooperation activities such as the technical and personnel exchange are prosperous.
