Electrical, Time and Frequency Measurement Laboratory


Electrical, Time and Frequency Laboratory is responsible for developing; improving and maintaining of national standards and testing technology in the fields of electrical, time and frequency and working to push back the  frontiers of metrology to meet the needs of economic development and scientific advancement.


With this laboratory we can provide standard time and delover it throughout the country.

It is noted that in the modern world of international communications, business and travel it is vital that everyone around the world sets their clocks to the same agreed timescale. This timescale· Coordinated Universal Time, with the acronym UTC in all languages. The international Bureau of Weights Measures (BIPM) acts as the official time keeper of atomic time for the world. Around 65 timing centres with over 230 atomic clocks contribute to the international timescale.

This Laboratory is now maintaining 5 National Measurement Standards in the fields of Electrical, Time and Frequency.

GPS-Controlled frequency standards

The GPS-controlled frequency standards deliver a preCISIOn frequency and time reference, everywhere in the world. They receive their long-term frequency stability from built-in-Cesium standards in the GPS-satellites. GPS­controlled frequency standards are cost efficient, traceable and extremely accurate frequency standards and very suitable as frequency standards in the telecommunication and electronics industry. They fit in the calibration laboratory as frequency reference in test systems.

We are going to transmit Bangladesh Standard Time for TV Station, Mobile phone company, Radio, Telecommunication, Railway, Aviation etc can be use this Standard Time with this GPS- System with built-in Rubidium frequency standard.

Signal generator with built-in quartz oscillator

Frequency range: 0.1 Hz to3 GHz
Resolution: 0.1 Hz.

Direct voltage Standard
To be used as a DC Voltage standard in a National Metrology Institute
Outputs: 10V and 1.018V

Stability : better than 1.6 ppm per year with back up battery of capacity for a period of 72 hours.


With the above equipments this laboratory can give the traceable calibration in the field of Frequency, Multimeter, Voltmeter, Ammeter, Ohmmeter, Impendence Conductance etc.
