Information about Laboratory Accreditation (Chemical Testing laboratories)

The system of globalization has brought a revolutionary change in every sphere of human life and society and is making the world move fast towards the development of trade, commerce, industry and the quality of industrial products. Developing countries benefit economically from an increased participation in the global trading system. To compete in export market, it is not enough for developing countries to increase the volume and range of products they sell. In most cases exporters need from internationally recognized institution that their products conform to the requirements regarding quality, safety, health and environmental impacts. Technical ability to enter into global production and value chain is the key factor for the successful participation in international trade. So quality control of different products is now a global issue and testing of safety requirements have now become very essential. United Nations International Development Organization (UNIDO) extends their hands both Technically and financially for developing countries to develop an internationally accepted conformity assessment system for testing laboratories. Three international experts from UNIDO have worked at chemical testing laboratory for developing internationally accepted conformity assessment system.

BSTI Chemical Testing laboratories have been equipped with modern testing equipments. The laboratories are capable for identification and qualification of harmful materials as well as desired parameters in food and chemical products. BSTI Testing Wing have prepared a Quality Manual for its laboratories as per ISO/IEC 17025:2005. BSTI laboratories have  mandate to implement the quality management system in its all activities right from receipt/collection of testing items till the reporting and submission of the test results to customers. The objectives of the laboratory is to achieve international recognition and reliability via implementing integrated management and technical system as per ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and to get accreditation.
Chemical testing wing had selected 46 test parameters as scope of accreditation for four laboratories. These are 10 parameters for processed fruits product, 10 parameters for Biscuits, 19 parameters for Water, 3 parameters for microbiology and 4 parameters for Cement chemical. The wing participated in inter laboratory comparison (ILC)/inter laboratory proficiency testing

(ILPT) programmee in the year 2010 for 25 parameters. Chemical Testing Wing had submitted application to National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), India for accreditation of the said scope on June, 2010. The assessment team from NABL, India completed the pre-assessment on 1-2 December, 2010 and finial assessment on  26-27 February 2011 of all relevant management and technical system of the scope applied for accreditation. The laboratory has removed all the non-conformance on the basis of the report of pre-assessment and finial assessment. After removal of all non-conformances, NABL India has given accreditation on 46 parameters of Chemical and biological disciplines. Accreditation Certificate Number of Chemical discipline is T-1926 & Biological disciplines is T-1928.

Twelve numbers of officers have received training from abroad with the assistance of UNIDO on quality management system as well as instrumental analysis in the year 2010.
